I’ve been playing drums / percussion for over fifteen years, and performing regularly for the majority of this time. I have played in many different projects and have made music all over the country and abroad alongside some amazing musicians. I have played at large music festivals – including Glastonbury, Boardmasters, and the Norweigian Sommerfesten – in theatres, in large and small clubs/venues, and the occasional pub. I’ve recorded in pro studios in the UK and Europe. I’ve been involved with rock bands, punk bands, ska bands, jazz bands, indie bands, motown / soul bands, orchestras, musical theatre productions, and I have experience of co-writing songs too.
Whilst doing all this, I started teaching. Initially I was just teaching other students whilst I was studying for my degree in music at the University of Liverpool, but that quickly became a busy private teaching practice, first in Liverpool and now down in Hemel Hempstead. I’ve also worked for several Local Authority music services, teaching both individual students and large groups in schools across the country. I currently work for Hertfordshire Music Service, and teach in schools across the county.
In 2015 I was busy soundproofing a room in my garden, and I now have an almost completely soundproofed studio, well equipped with good quality drum kits. I’m so excited that I now have a permanent base to teach from without disturbing my neighbours!
I have been lucky enough to turn my passion into something I make a living from, and love to pass my knowledge and experience on to others. I hope that I can help you to love drums and music as much as I do!
